Family guide to exploring Nantucket 2023

We closed out this Summer in Nantucket, one of our favorite places to enjoy a family vacation with the kids! Famous for its beaches, cobblestone streets & insanely good seafood, we are so happy we got to visit & I’m going to be sharing our exact week-long itinerary featuring my favorite places to visit in Nantucket with young kids…

…if for no other reason than to get these photos the heck off my phone 🤣

This photo was taken at Madaket Beach and is my favorite shot of the entier vacation… shout out to the sweet girls who said yes to the crazy windswept lady asking for cute family photos 😂📸

Places to visit in nantucket⛵👇🏼

Day One

  • Stayed overnight at the Hyannis Harbour Hotel in Hyannis right next to the Steamboat Authority Dock for the car ferry

  • Took the 8:30am ferry

  • Had lunch at my favorite spot of all TIME Sand Bar. Being on the beach with a lobster roll and a painkiller cocktail is my happy place

  • The kids and I headed into town and to Bartletts Farm to stock up on all the best fresh local produce for the week!

  • Picked up our beach off-roading permit at the police station (it’s $150 & so worth it!)

Day two

  • We started the day by heading down to Steps Beach which was at the end of our street to play in the sand, search for shells and catch minnows

  • We rented a boat from Island Boat Rentals

  • We drove the boat around the bay and daydreamed looking at all the superyachts

  • Docked up at the White Elephant for lunch

  • We all jumped off the boat and into the water before heading to dinner at the Nantucket Lobster Trap and oh my GOD. That food gave me the closest thing to a Biblical experience I’ve ever had. I also had fried full-belly Clams with a 1.5lb lobster 🤤

Day three

  • We went to get surf casting rods at Nantucket Tackle and it rained ALL. DAY.

  • We spent the day on the beach playing with the wet sand and fishing.

  • The boys got used to surf casting while Aura and I made drippy sand castles 🌧️

  • Dinner was takeout from a local seafood place, we enjoyed freshly shucked oysters, salmon and of course mama’s favorite, LOBSTAH 🦞

Day four

  • Tudor and I made another run out to Bartletts Farm

  • We drove out to off-road and surf-cast fish at 40th Pole beach which is surrounded by the most insanely beautiful estates

  • Lunch was back at Sand Bar

  • We were told the fishing was better as Smith’s Point Beach so we headed back there that night after dinner

Day FIVE

  • We headed straight back to Smith’s Point beach once we were up and ready that morning

  • The kids and my husband eventually gave in and let mama do the viral sand heart photo!

  • It was such beautiful weather we took so many photos!

  • We surf-casted on the beach and ate at Millie’s for dinner.

  • After dinner we headed down to Steps Beach right by our house to watch the sunset 😍 peep the no filter pic under the gallery below!

Day SIX

  • We chartered a boat to fish for Blue fish

  • Everyone caught fish, Tudor’s was massive!

  • We casted off of Great Point in the Coatue Reserve

  • We had lunch and Sand Bar (can you tell yet that it’s my favorite place?!) 🦞

  • We watched the Opera House Cup Sailing Competition from our boat which was so cool (it’s the first all-wooden, single-hulled classic boat regatta)

  • That night we grilled up the bluefish we caught and ate it for dinner

  • Then we took the doors off the Jeep and headed out to Smith’s point again to watch the sunset

Day SEVEN

  • I kept the doors off the Jeep for my morning coffee run and we headed down to Steps Beach to do our daily surf-cast session

  • We picked up lunch to-go at Millie’s and ate in the back of the car (complete with DIY Dark n’ Stormy made in the trunk 😅)

  • That afternoon we had to clean out the Jeep (which took about 5-7 business days with all the sand we had accumulated over the week) and inflate the tires etc.

  • As we returned our surfcast rods we grabbed dinner at Sea Grille next door to the tackle shop.

  • It was a bit of a splurge and even had lobster on the kids menu! Aura had her first lobster all to herself and was so happy with it!

Where did you travel to this Summer? I’m already dreaming about where next year will take us…

Love Lynn
